Welcome to stagehappenings.com, a new online review site that will cover theatre, opera, dance, events, regional theatre and anything else I see and wish to write about.
My name is Robert Machray and some of you may know me, but if you don’t, I will give you some idea. I have been involved with the theatre for over 35 years and hold a Bachelor from Yale and a Masters of Fine Art from the University of Southern California. I have performed in over 150 productions and been nominated for some of these and won awards for others (LA Drama Critics Circle, Dramalogue, LA Weekly, a Robie, Ovations, and Garland Awards). I have performed at 12 Tony Award-winning theatres. I have helped cast shows including gigs at the Mark Taper, Getty Center, and given suggestions to many more who sought my help.
I have also done countless television shows (Cheers Criminal Minds Suddenly Susan etc.), taught classes at U.S/C. U.C.L.A. U.C.S.B and appeared on several radio shows ( LA Theatre Works) . Throw in a couple movies and work in Cyprus, Great Britain, Peoples Republic of China, and Poland with a dash of staged readings. I have also directed some 15 plays and last year I attended 200 plays.
Since people have asked my opinion or help, and I had not reviewed except as an Ovation voter or as judge for high school Shakespeare competitions, and weekly as a monitor for the Classical Theatre Lab (which I ran for three years) I wanted to try something new, thus stagehappening.com.
