Broadway Unplugged

Valley Musical Theatre has been putting on a series of sterling events to raise money for the floundering troupe and musical stars have come out in droves. This was never more evident that at the recent BROADWAY UNPLUGGED CONCERT at the Ford Theatre. The Ford is a gorgeous outdoor setting that is often used for concerts. I am sure the sounds coming out of the theatre have never been better on that cool fall evening. Against the natural backdrop of the Hollywood Hills the amazingly talented Gerry Sternbach lead more than twenty Broadway singers and another eleven dancers, plus the entire cast of the new musical CITY KID, through an enchanting evening of song. The were all so excellent it is hard to single our anyone but I particularly liked Carla Renata singing The Oldest Profession, Matt Zarley singing My Luck Is Changing, and the astounding Adam Lambert bringing the house down with a song from Jesus Christ Superstar. Even more special was the fact that there were many performers from WICKED that is packing them in at the Pantages. There were some four Elphabas and two or three Fiyeros performing. Unfortunately the current Elphaba Eden Espinosa who is just terrific in the LA production of WICKED was indisposed. How generous of these performers to provide their services on their only dayoff, Stay tuned for more news from Valley Musical Theatre and GO SEE WICKED.
